Top Affordable Beach Cities for a Quick Getaway

by | Lifestyle, Travel

It’s March; arguably the most torturous month of the year. If you’re amongst those of us living with 4 seasons, we still have an entire month left before we are in the clear from snow storms and icy roads. It’s exactly now when I start feverishly dreaming of sandy shores and sunshine – I want nothing more than to lie on a beach for a few days, soak in the warmth, read, and do… nothing.

Luckily, it is possible to take an impromptu mini beach vaca without breaking the bank. From a less-expected town in Florida to a charming South Carolina beach community, there are many possible escapes to help ride out the last of the dreary winter days. Read on for some affordable options for your vitamin D-starved soul:

Lake Worth, Florida

Lake Worth

One of the less flashy towns in Palm Beach county, Lake Worth is a sweet seaside community with easy access to some of Florida’s most beautiful beaches. An easy 15 minutes from West Palm Beach, Lake Worth has an abundance of AirBnb’s at a fraction of the price of its neighboring cities. Easily accessible, quaint, and less touristy than many Floridian towns, you’ll want to stay for more than a few days.

Sayulita, Mexico

Sayulita

Nestled on the Pacific coast of Mexico in the Riviera Nayarit region, Sayulita is a relatively well kept secret on the Mexican tourist scene. Close to more popular Puerto Vallarta, Sayulita is a fishing & surfing village with a laid back vibe. In addition to stunning beaches, the town boasts art galleries, chic shops, and hip cafes. Margaritas, anyone?

Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach

While there is nothing wrong with going to Virginia Beach strictly for the beaches, this seaside city is packed with plenty to do for those less apt to lounge all day. The famous Neptune Festival along the Oceanfront Boardwalk showcases amazing music performances, art fairs, and wine tastings.

If you want to stick to the beach, the East Coast Surfing Championship happens every August, replete with not only surfing but live music, beauty pageants and volleyball games.

Folly Beach, Charleston

Folly beach

A city just south of Charleston, SC, Folly Beach is a little hideaway with a more laid back feel than its preppy counterpart. A magnet for surfers and sunbathers alike, Folly is also a haven for outdoor activities like tennis, fishing, and kayaking. Going slightly off-season is more budget friendly– and if you travel with a few friends, renting a larger place could save you even more coins.
